She’s been reading, and she’s been watching. Here’s another installment of currently watching, currently reading!
📺 SUCCESSION
format: series (currently 3 seasons)
genre: dramedy / black comedy
where to watch: hbo max
“Power, politics, money...it's all in the family in this provocative, funny series about a highly dysfunctional dynasty. When Logan Roy (Brian Cox), CEO of one of the world's largest media and entertainment conglomerates, considers retirement, each of his four grown children follows a personal agenda that doesn't always sync with those of their siblings--or of their father.”
💭 my thoughts: so, this is basically a modern game of thrones at its core. there is not a single likable character…and i can’t get enough of it. it’s very satirical in nature which i think is necessary when you’re focusing on a very dysfunctional family of wealthy white people lmao
📺 BRIDGERTON (SEASON 2)
format: series (currently 2 seasons)
genre: period drama, regency romance
where to watch: netflix
“This season centers on the eldest Bridgerton child, Anthony (Jonathan Bailey), as he seeks to find a viscountess to spend his life with. But while he's courting this season's diamond, Edwina (Charithra Chandran), he doesn't expect to have to deal with her older sister, Kate (Simone Ashley). What follows is what we like to call a slow-burn romance — and it's not without plenty of drama along the way.” via Popsugar
💭 my thoughts (no spoilers): i liked season 2 way more than season 1. there was a lot more angst, and it was a slooooooow burn 🔥 also, having two dark skinned south asian leads is very refreshing, and i like how the show incorporated their heritage and culture throughout the season.
📺 OUR FLAG MEANS DEATH
format: series
genre: period comedy, romantic comedy
where to watch: hbo max
“The year is 1717. Wealthy landowner Stede Bonnet has a midlife crisis and decides to blow up his cushy life to become a pirate. It does not go well. Based on a true story.”
💭 my thoughts: you know, i don’t think i’ve ever seen a non-binary character in a tv show until i saw this show. i definitely have never seen a gay pirate romance in a tv show until i saw this show. what a treat this show is. it’s funny, it’s witty, and it’s diverse in more than one way. a must watch!
📖 CASTE: THE ORIGINS OF OUR DISCONTENTS by ISABEL WILKERSON
format: book
genre: non-fiction
The Pulitzer Prize–winning, bestselling author of The Warmth of Other Suns examines the unspoken caste system that has shaped America and shows how our lives today are still defined by a hierarchy of human divisions.
“As we go about our daily lives, caste is the wordless usher in a darkened theater, flashlight cast down in the aisles, guiding us to our assigned seats for a performance. The hierarchy of caste is not about feelings or morality. It is about power—which groups have it and which do not.” via Goodreads
💭 my thoughts: i’ve only just started reading this book (i’m only a few pages in) but caste has controlled populations all around the world since what seems like the beginning of mankind. i’m aware of caste in how it was established in the united states as well as the philippines, but i’m hoping to get more insight into how it has affected others throughout history.

I have been looking for your newsletter and luckily found it today. I am so happy 💘. A loyal YouTube and Instagram follower. 🥺
I just started watching season two of Bridgerton after seeing all the buzz! I honestly don't think I'll bother with season one lol. I'm also currently finishing up season one of Killing Eve with Sandra Oh and trying so hard to dodge the series finale spoilers. 😭
