WHAT’S GOOD?!

You may be familiar with that opener from my YouTube videos. Now, I introduce you to my Substack, What’s Good!

My name is Asia Jackson (if you didn’t already know) and I’m an actress and digital creative based in Los Angeles. Well, now that I have this Substack I guess can add writer to my bio too.

My content on YouTube and Instagram is largely focused on fashion and women’s lifestyle but as a biracial, indigenous third culture kid who grew up a military brat, I grew up being fascinated with race, politics, culture, and everything in between. I frequently share my experience and perspective as a person of intersectional marginalized identities across all my social media platforms, but I decided that it was time to have all my writings, musings, and curations live in one place. What’s Good is now one of my many vacation homes. Except, I will not be vacationing on here because this platform will actually require a lot of work on my end LMAO

I also wanted to create a platform for civil & productive discussion. In the era of social media and virality, people are sometimes afraid to speak their minds online because they fear being “cancelled” or ridiculed. But there are more productive ways to go about this—ways that encourage everyone to share their insight and experiences instead of feeling scared or ashamed. A lot of the stuff that I know, I didn’t learn in school. I learned them from talking to other people.

My goal with this platform is to create a safe and compassionate space for our community to educate, share, listen, and learn from one another. It’s easy to project and be condescending online (I’m guilty of it) but the truth is that everyone is at a different place in their politics, their understanding of themselves, and their understanding of the world. A lot of the discussions that I see online tend to be very unproductive and nasty. It’s easy to talk like this online, but we would never talk like this to strangers in person. This platform is intended to bring humanity and compassion back to conversation and discussion. No retweets or likes for clout—just human beings talking to each other and sharing their perspectives.

Why ‘What’s Good’?

Well, I always be wanting to know what’s good. What’s good with current events? What’s good with the newest skincare launches? What’s good with my mental health? What’s good with you? How’s your family?

In What’s Good, I’ll show you what’s good.

Sounds chaotic, but I’m kinda into it. What am I signing up for?

This will be a home for my creation and curation of articles, discourse, products I like, products I don’t like (what’s NOT good), cool things I came across on the internet, monthly Q&As, and more.

Examples of weekly and monthly content:

  • blog posts, think pieces, and random musings

  • community discussions

  • curations & roundups (cool things I saw online, what I learned this week, music playlists)

  • advice & monthly q&a’s

  • an exclusive podcast

  • secret videos you will never see on my youtube channel

Sensational. Now, why should I pay for this?

Researching, curating, thinking, and writing requires a lot of labor (remember that post I did about the model minority myth? That took almost 2 weeks to create). While I enjoy doing all of these things, sometimes actual work gets in the way and I have to prioritize those projects over my passion projects (I originally posted that model minority myth post to be part of a series, which I never continued because actual work that pays my rent, got in the way) With this monthly subscription model, I’m able to prioritize this type of content for you all to consume and enjoy on a weekly basis instead of a once every three months Instagram story that disappears in 24 hours 🤪

This will also allow me to engage with you guys on an even deeper, more personal level as well as make educational content more accessible!

There will always be a free component to this newsletter. All educational content will be free (to align with my goal to make education more accessible) but subscribing will get you access to exclusive content, discussion threads, and even an exclusive podcast!
